The ISO 14001 regulation is not mandatory, but distinguishes the quality of an efficient environmental management system.
ARANOW is a Catalan company (Sentmenat, Barcelona) with worldwide reach which designs and manufactures packaging machinery
On April 20th, Aranow Packaging Machinery has received the ISO 14001 certification, which puts the cap on the Catalan company commitment with the environment and the territory. Aranow, founded in 2003, specializes in industrial machinery design and production for the packaging industry. Since the beginning, the company’s growth and sustainability has been based on streamlining resources as a core value.
TÜV Rheinland, the company responsible of issuing this quality seal, by means of its Operations Manager Esteve Regales, has highlighted during the issuing event the “singularity” of an exporting company such as Aranow requesting an environmental standard” as a first quality acknowledgement.
The ISO 14001 regulation is not mandatory, but “puts the cap on Aranow’s will to conduct a responsible environmental policy and fight the natural resource squandering, which has been its commitment since the beginning”, has claimed during the event its CEO, Jordi Cuixart.
Precisely, “fruit of this conviction”, all the departments involved of the company decided to undertake the process of “achieving this ISO 14001 quality standard in order to become even more efficient, being aware that, in a heavily industrialized society, sustainable growth is a challenge, but it is above all a chance to reinvent itself ”. This is a constant which has lead Aranow to continuous technologic innovations to reduce use of consumer goods, to take advantage of every package capacities and to ensure a higher production speed with the fewer energy consumption.
Mitigating environmental impact
The USE-EN ISO 14001 regulation is an international distinction that determines how to implement an efficient environmental management system. The regulation is conceived to achieve the balance between economic profitability and a minimum environmental impact, and it is based on the commitment of all the organization to achieve both goals. In order to achieve the certification, the organization needs to establish, implement, maintain and improve, in a continued way, an environmental management system according to the ISO 14001 regulation requirements and specify how they will be achieved.
Likewise, it needs to plan and conduct an environmental policy, approved by the higher executive instances of the organization, and making them known to all the interested parties. This environmental policy needs to include a commitment to continuous improvement, pollution prevention, and compliance to enforceable environmental regulation and laws. The certification also requires the need to establish tracking and measurement mechanisms for activities and operations which could result in a significant environmental impact.
